Jim was almost always cheerful and upbeat. Having retired to the Shenandoah Valley, he loved, and often talked about, the Cathedral School in Washington, where he had taught (and spoke favorably of) the daughters of VPs Quayle and Gore, as well as now-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice. The testimonials of his many former students here and on his Facebook page reveal an exceptional teacher. We will all miss his wry sense of humor and his friendliness.

He is survived by his sister, Joanne Mulready of Hampton, NH, and her children Rick Mulready, Patty Ross, and Christine (and Michael) Jacobson, and her grandchildren, Lexie and Logan Ross, and Brynach and Collin Hoyt. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Tibbetts of Broad Brook, CT, and his children Patrick Tibbetts and Alison Beach, and his grandchildren Matthew and Megan Tibbetts, Evan Nemeth, and Abigail and Jordan Beach.
He also leaves behind his best friends, Elizabeth and Hannah Scott, and scores of other friends and former students who will all sorely miss his stories and wit.
